FAQ’s

This page will answer a lot of Frequently asked questions about studying in North Cyprus and Eastern Mediterranean University.

1. How much do i need to budget for accommodation and Feeding and how much should i be looking at for tuition? 

for on campus accommodation, you can find the price range on my website.  

Basic on-campus accomodation ranges between $1000-$2800 a year. *Pls note that this price is subject to change and availability.

For your living costs every month budget on average 20-30k naira. Be prepared to spend a bit more when you first arrive here. in the first two months as a lot of things will come up.

Tuition fees for undergraduate programmes are around $4000(can be a bit less or a bit more) per year if a student gets 50% scholarship. Once you pay your first year tuition, you can pay your subsequent tuition fees installmentally.

Masters student need to deposit $4000 before they can be issued a confirmation letter from the school allowing them apply for visa. The entire masters programme costs about $4700(with scholarship)

 

2.What documents do i need for admission?

For undegraduate you need your O-level results, Passport data page and passport photograph

For masters – Passport data page, Passport photograph, Undergraduate transcript and certificate

For PhD you need your CV,Passport data page, Research interests, Undergraduate and Masters (transcript and certificate)

 

3. Can i study medicine at EMU?

Yes you can! If you do not have all A’s at O-levels though you’re unlikely to get this. You’d be offered an admission to the faculty of phrarmacy but if you can achieve a GPA of 3.5-4.0 in your first semester, you can apply for internal transfer from the Faculty of Pharmacy to medicine. It costs 20TL.

4. Are there Jobs available?

Although Jobs are not readily available, there are a number of jobs available on campus. You’d need to firstly have quite a solid GPA and then apply to on-campus offices. The pay ranges from 300-600TL for Student Assistants and Part-time research assistants and about 1200TL for Full-time research assistants.

There are also off-campus jobs. Some might pay 5TL per hour and some are hotels who pay monthly. The salary at such hotels is about 1000TL per month. Transportation is usually provided for hotel jobs.

5. What’s the weather like?

In the summer, it’s quite hot. About 35-45 degrees. Spring also gets hot and the Winters are quite mild compared to other European countries. You’d need FANS and Air-conditioning in the summer months.

Most on and off campus accommodations come furnished with AC’s and heating in them

6.What’s the political situation in the country at the moment?

North and South Cyprus are still at present two seperate countries. TRNC(North Cyprus) is still under Turkish rule but talks are ongoing which should lead to an agreement allowing the North and South to be joined together. A professor here at EMU is also involved in the peace talks between the nations.

The UN mainatains peace and stability in the country along with the police. There has been no war or talk of war for a long time. There’s also no unrest in the country.

7. What are the scholarship offers?

EMU offers scholarships ranging from 25%-100% based on a student’s previous academic performance. The scholarship deductions and amount payable will reflect in the applicant’s offer letter during admissions.

EMU also offers tuition fee discounts after each semester. This discounts are based on a student’s performance in the previous semester.

The TRNC government also offers scholarships to students with fantastic results after they have spent some time in the school. The scholarship covers tuition fees, accomodation and a monthly stipend is given to the recipient.

8.Is there freedom of religion in TRNC?

Yes there is!, The school authorities ensure that a safe environment is provided for every student to practice their beliefs – whatever they might be. There are tons of student clubs, many opportunities for leadership, we’re in the ranked highly amongst world universities

9.Can i remain in TRNC after my education?

Some students receive job offers from the University to be retained in various academic positions. Apart from this, most jobs would require an excellent knowledge of the Turkish language to be offered employment in the country.

Most people do not remain in the country as they end up furthering their education in other european countries or the US.

10.What are the benefits of studying at EMU?

There are no strikes. You get an american system and standard of education, a certificate recognized world wide!

11.After i apply what next?

If you are an applicant from Nigeria, You would need to pay the full fees listed on your admission letter before you can apply for a visa. Once your fees are paid, you are issued a confirmation letter and the school sends your name to the Embassy.

You can then go ahead to apply for your visa at the Turkish embassy in Abuja.

12.What are my chances of getting a visa?

We cannot give 100% guarantee on Visas as the overall decision is up to the visa consular. We can advice students on the best way to package their documents and applying for a visa but it’s entirely the student’s responsibility to ensure that they follow our instructions to the letter.

Even after this the Visa is not guaranteed.  In saying this, Visa success rate is 90-98% and very few people are denied visas.
